IN the final of the Patsy Byrne 30:20 Sweepstake, Confident Ape (Split The Bill-Judy’s Tidings) was a warm order to deliver for Jeremiah Kerins and trainer Edward O’Sullivan and he did not disappoint.

He was considered to be well drawn on the inside and though Payday Porter was quickest away in a split of 3:01, he managed to hold onto the lead until the bend.

It was here that Confident Ape, who got away much quicker in 3:10, challenged and he seemed to give Payday Porter a belt that impeded the early leader but, overall, had little effect on the result.

Confident Ape took it up and led around the second bend and, once in front, he was never headed and he proceeded to run right away from his rivals.

Edward O’Sullivan’s charge raced around the final bend chased by Nine Hole Bar but there was no catching this most impressive winner, who was eight and a half lengths clear on the line in 29:19 from the fast-finishing Aughacasla Spark who got up for second place.

The winner looks a classy sort and it’s two wins from two and he will be one to keep an eye on in the future.

In the second race which was the Final Patsy Byrne 29:80 Sweep, there was a lot of trouble at the first bend with the fancied Governor’s Liz being taken completely out of it as Century Champion ran right across the track from her trap one berth.

Hawk and Governor’s Liz were sent sprawling and this allowed Farransare Flash (Frisby Flashing-Liscahane Fancy) to take it up. He raced to the front and this left the field in his wake.

Blues Are Here gave chase while Governor’s Liz tried everything from an impossible position but Farransare Flash had flown and he was never going to be caught as he raced clear and he was four and a half lengths clear on the line from Blues Are Here in a slow enough 29:63. The owners are John Foley and Patrick Sheehan from Ballyroe just outside Tralee and he showed good early.

In the final of the Con Murphy Memorial Consolation there was lots of confidence in Gatso (Joanneston Cash-Euro Emerald) who is trained by the bang in form Mossie O’Connor and owned by Denis O’Connor from Moyvane.

He was badly drawn in six but a traffic pile up at the first bend helped his cause no end. This happened when Gulleen Blue and three other dogs – Farranfore Tom, Micky Manners and Mountway Hero – all arrived at the opening bend together and when they collided, they almost knocked Gatso over, but he skipped clear and that was that.

Once in front Gatso was never going to be caught and he was never challenged as he swept to the line in 29.29 winning by four lengths from Shane Luby’s Tried My Case.

In the Patsy Byrne 750 race, the lead changed hands on a more than one occasion as reserve Non Stop took it out early but Mustang Leyton took it up down the back on the second occasion as Non Stop, well, stop.

Glenard King was coming with a run from the back for sponsor Patsy Byrne and he drove through approaching the second last bend to take it up and try to establish a lead. However Glenard King struggled in the heat to stay the distance and Meenala Minnie was catching him with every stride.

But the line came in time for Glenard King who held on by a head in a moderate 43:00. However it was nice win for Patsy Byrne who has put a lot of money into sponsorship at Tralee.

The final of the Patsy Byrne 29:30 Sweep was a cracking contest as the Kincora Sight was lighting fast away from trap one but Ballymac Star also bombed out of trap six and it was very tight at the opening bend.

However as Kincora Sight (Trade Official- Sly Kiss) stuck to the rails, Ballymac Star stared to lose his place and it was Loher Tom who gave chase down the back.

Kincora Sight was not giving way as he raced around the final two bends and he held on comfortably by two and half lengths in 29:33.

Loher Tom held on from the fast finishing Dirreen Dawn for second but the winner showed good early and that was enough for victory and a quick double for trainer Edward O’Sullivan.

The winner is owned by Brendan J Nolan from Tralee who heads up a Security firm so he had no trouble carrying the € 750 home safely.

Temper To Burn (Notworthtwobob-Over Gold) was a trap-to-line winner of the final of the Patsy Byrne Sweep after a superb 3:03 break and he was never troubled as he ran right away to win by three lengths from Narof Queen, in a very fast 28:87, at odds of 4/1.

The final race of the night went to the 10/1 outsider Swift Owen (Split The Bill- Swift Rover) who came from last to first as long time leader Loher Tonic led until the final bend when he was clipped from the back, and lost his action.

The winning time was 29:45 and he is owned by Daniel Collins from Co Limerick.
