OLYMPIC handball and handball filled the weekend's action in Kerry Community Games.

A total of seven teams participated in the Olympic Handball Finals in Listowel on Saturday morning.

This is the fourth year that Olympic Handball has been part of Community Games and the sport is still finding its feet within the county, although Kerry teams have found success at the ESB Community Games National Finals when Duagh-Lyre returned home last year with silver and bronze.

With teams from Ardfert-Kilmoyley, Gaeltacht, Firies and Duagh-Lyre, a host of exciting games were played in an electric atmosphere in the Community Centre.

In the Boys' Under 13 Competition, Firies and Duagh-Lyre met in the final where Firies emerged victorious. Duagh-Lyre took Silver and Gaeltacht returned home with bronze.

In the Girls' Under 13 Competition, Duagh-Lyre emerged victorious after some magnificent games against Ardfert-Kilmoyley, Gaeltacht and Firies. Silver went to Firies, bronze to Ardfert-Kilmoyley and certificates to Gaeltacht.

But it is the silver medal winners, Firies that will travel to the ESB Community Games Munster Finals as Duagh-Lyre have qualified from the basketball finals earlier this year.

The Boys' Under 15 Handball finals were held in Glenbeigh on Sunday.

A total of four teams participated which sees an increase on last year's numbers.

Glenbeigh-Glencar returned to Community Games after a lengthy break and this year they were selected to host this handball final.

A number of hugely exciting and challenging games were played between Gaeltacht, Duagh-Lyre, Lispole and Glen-beigh-Glencar.

Gold medals went to the home side Glenbeigh-Glencar, with silver going to Gaeltacht, bronze to Duagh-Lyre and certificates to Lispole.

On that Glenbeigh-Glencar team are: Barry O'Connor, Patrick O'Donoghue, Leon Seidler, Ivan Houlihan, Mark O'Sullivan, Damien Moriarty.

This now sees two Olympic Handball teams from Firies and the Boys' Under15 hand-ball team from Glenbeigh-Glencar all secure places at the ESB Community Games Munster Finals in Limerick on July 13.

NEXT ACTION: The Boys' Under 12, Girls' Under 12 and Girls' Under 15 soccer finals will be held in the KDL pitches, Tralee on Saturday. Games get underway at 10.00am. STILL TO COME: Gaelic football, hurling, rounders, pitch and putt, swimming, sycling, the Lee Strand Kerry Community Games County Athletics Finals and the ESB Community Games Special Activities Weekend.
