GARDAÍ have recovered a car stolen from outside a supermarket in Portarlington over two weeks ago. The car, a grey Citroen Xantia, was recovered by gardaí in Tullamore on Saturday November 16. The number plates, along with the tax, insurance and NCT discs had been removed from the car. The car is one of two cars stolen in the Portarlington area while being left unattended with the keys left in the ignition.
Meanwhile gardaí in Portarlington, are continuing with their search for the blue Toyota Saloon, stolen from outside, Michael Moore Car Sales at Garryhinch, Portarlington. The car had been missing for ten days before it was reported to Portarlington gardaí; again the keys had been left in the ignition of the car.

The gardaí in Portarlington have re-issued their warning to motorists, not to leave their cars unattended with the car keys in the ignition. People in breach of this law can expect to face prosecution.
Garda stations around Co. Laois reported a quiet weekend in the county with few incidents or arrests taking place.
Gardaí in Portlaoise did make a number of arrests during last weekend.
The arrests were made following a number of public order incidents on the main St. in Portlaoise town. Charges were made in relation to these incidents with the defendants due to appear before Portlaoise District Court at a later date
Gardaí are continuing with their investigations into another incident on Main Street, Portlaoise, where a glass plate window at the Luna Rossa restaurant was broken. It is not yet known if this incident was an accident or was the result of an altercation at the premises.
Gardaí also reported a significant decrease in the number of road traffic offences; this they say is mainly due to the new points system put in place earlier this month. In the run up to Christmas gardaí are issuing severe warning to motorist to be extra vigilant on the counties roads over the coming weeks.
