KILDANGAN National School scooped top honours in all age categories in the Monasterevin Credit Union Schools Quiz which was held last week.

The students emerged triumphant in both the under 11 and under13 category against strong opposition from the five other competing schools. The six schools which took part in the competition were Scoil Eimhin Naofa, St Peter’s, and St John’s schools in Monasterevin, as well as Nurney and Lackagh National Schools.

The victorious Kildangan under11 team consisted of Norah Jane Prendergast, Louise Fitzgerald, Carl Caffrey and Jamie Kerns.

Another team from Kildangan National School were runners up in this age category and Scoil Eimhin Naofa was in third place.

In the under 13 age category Kildangan were represented by Grace Nealon, Scott Fitzgerald, Marie Fitzgerald and Aofe Cawley.

Kildangan also secured the second spot in this age category and were followed by Nurney National School and St John’s School in Monasterevin in third and fourth place respectively.

The winning teams were presented with individual plaques for themselves and a plaque for their school to mark their achievement. All of the entrants received a memento for taking part in the competition.

The questions were set by the credit union chapter and the quiz master on the night was Aidan Lawless who oversaw a stiff competition with many excellent answers from all competitors.

Monasterevin Credit Union chairperson Ms Mary Ryan congratulated the winners and all who took part from the six schools. She commended the students on the standard of answering to questions she acknowledged were far from easy.

Both teams now go forward to take part in the Chapter Seven Finals which will be held on Friday 27 February.
