Ladies Football - match reviews
SFL Athgarvan 1-7 Sarsfields 0-2 WHILE Sarsfields adapted to the inclement conditions better than the home side they failed to reflect this on the scoreboard, missing several opportunities from frees.
However, Athgarvan, while not playing to their potential, registered 1-5 in the first half, the goal coming Aileen Whelehan, who finished clinically.
Athgarvan had the difficulty of playing into the breeze in the second half which they did well. Raising their game a gear they created chances in front of the Sarsfield goal only to misjudge the strength of the breeze and failed on several occasions to split the posts. However, their perseverance paid off and they registered scores from Ber Coffey and Fiona Noone.
Sarsfields opened their scoring from a free by Kim Turner followed by a well taken point from Emma Hannon.
Congratulations to manager Frank Delaney and his daughter, midfielder Edel, who completed the Great BUPA Ireland Run on Saturday for the Marie Keating Fund. They finished together in an impressive 53 minutes.

Jessica Whelehan produced a wonder save from a piledriver from Gately just before the interval to leave the scores level 1-1 each at half-time. The second half began with Daly restoring the home side's advantage with a point in the third minute. An opportunistic goal from Roisin Donohoe put Sarsfields clear but Confey responded in magnificent style and an Orla O'Shea equalised matters.
