• ANGLING •
Charter skipper, Nick Bowie, operating out of Kilmore Quay, had a group of anglers from Howth SAC out recently. While fishing South West of the Saltee Islands, they had pollack, ling, whiting and wrasse. Nick will be available for trips throughout the winter months. For bookings, contact Tel. O87-2547110.
A shore competition run by Carna SAC was held at Glassillaun near Clifden. The fish caught included ray, dogfish, whiting and dabs.1st Joe Clarke, Carna & Cois Fharraige SAC, l7 fish; 2nd Fergus Collins, Carna & Cois Fharraige SAC, ll fish; 3rd Norbert Zimmerer, Carna SAC. l0 fish.
Anglers have reported good catches of big pollack and cod near Broadhaven Bay. Good shore fishing was also reported from Ballyglass Pier, where anglers reported good species fishing, catching conger, ballan wrasse, pollack and coalfish.
Charter Skipper, Pat Robinson operating "MV Cricket" out of Port na Blagh had groups of anglers . A group of six anglers led by Richard Alcorn, Dunfanaghy were brought fishing over rough ground around Tory Island. They landed 38 pollack averaging 6 lbs., 3 ling averaging 8 lbs., a cod of l6.5 lbs. and plenty of coalfish averaging 3.5 lbs. Pat went wreck fishing over the 'Empress of Great Britain' with a group of ten anglers led by Robert Winter. They had 33 pollack averaging 7.5 lbs., with 2 over l0 lbs., great catches of coalfish averaging 5.5 lbs., l6 ling averaging 8.5 lbs. Pat himself landed a specimen torsk of 7.025 lbs. taken on mackerel fillet on a 6/0 hook in l0O8 meters of water.
At Culdaff, anglers reported good fishing for mackerel, pollack and occasional conger from the pier.

South Africa have made only one change for their squad to face England in the Third Test in Durban on Boxing Day.
Seamer David Terbrugge, who was selected in the 13 man squad which drew the Second Test in Port Elizabeth but failed to make the starting line up is the only player overlooked for the traditional Christmas Test.
Spinner Paul Adams is included having been controversially overlooked for the starting line up at St George's Park, while fast bowler Mornantau Hayward has retained his place after claiming five wickets on his debut in Port Elizabeth.

Four English-based players have been named in Nigeria's preliminary squad for next month's Africa Nations' Cup. Arsenal striker Kanu is the most high-profile inclusion, along with Chelsea's in-form left-back Celestine Babayaro. Luton defender Efe Sodje and Birmingham forward Dele Adebola are also in the squad for the tournament, which runs from January 22 to February 13.
