Teams from Ireland, England, Wales, France, Belgium, and Holland will be competing in the championships. Months of preparations have gone into the organising of the championships under Bro. Finbarr Spring of St. Augustines. Over the weekend a remarkable one hundred and fifty games will be played before the destinations of the various singles and doubles championships have been decided.

HOCKEY
The country's two hockey associations have joined forces for the staging of the European Youths Trophy tournament for under 18 boys and girls in Belfast this weekend.
The event gets underway tomorrow when Ireland meet England in the boys section and Germany in the girls event. The tournament continues until Monday and teams from Holland, Belgium, France, Scotland and Spain make it the biggest ever underage promotion in the country.
The weekend will be a big occasion for the country's under 16 boys and girls as they travel to Antwerp for a tournament involving the same seven countries.
Meanwhile no date has yet been finalised for the final match in the AIB Bank sponsored Munster Ladies Senior Hockey League between Church of Ireland and Catholic Institute.
Harlequins have already won the league and at issue now is the runners up spot which guarantees a team a first round bye in the Sharwoods Irish Senior Cup draw. UCC occupy that position at present but they would be joined by C of I if the latter were to win their game against Institute at the Moylish venue. Should the sides finish level on points, the Munster Branch has determined that there will be a play-off for the runners-up spot.

Newcastle Falcons 43 London Scottish 20: It took the Scots to undo Scottish at Kingston Park last night as Newcastle came from behind to record the win which keeps their European hopes alive.
Scottish internationals George Graham and Peter Walton crossed for tries as Newcastle took the points they so desperately required after their mauling by Northampton last Saturday.
The Exiles could point to the harsh sin-binning of Guy Easterby for an innocuous offence at a scrum on the hour as the pivotal moment.
But although Easterby's temporary dismissal was harsh, the visitors over-robust tactics had previously gone unpunished, and referee Graham Hughes finally lost patience.
Not that Newcastle were complaining.

SOCCER
A decision by the Board of Control of the FAI Harp lager National League to deduct one point from the Athlone Town club because of the failure of the Midland side to meet their financial commitments to the League on time, was appealed to the FAI.
