OVER 300 Skillnets’ students graduated last week at a gala function in the Talbot Hotel.
Co Carlow Chamber of Commerce established the education programme to cater for the needs of the county and the graduation night proved to be a great success, paying testament to the training and development work that is taking place at present. The graduates attended their various courses over a 12-month period.
Chamber President Mary O’Connell welcomed learn-ers, trainers and company representatives along with local dignitaries to the event.
“The changing landscape of global business is bringing skills needs to the forefront of the Irish competitiveness agenda,” she said.
“Vulnerable sectors, emerging technologies and the knowledge-based economy all lead to the need for upgrading skills, acquiring new skill, and expanding skills portfolios.”
“Carlow/Kilkenny Skill-nets have been working with over 100 enterprises in the chamber training network and the enterprise-led solutions that have emerged are creating business impact by improving skills and competitiveness in our country. Co Carlow Chamber of Commerce wishes to acknowledge the achievements of local companies and their employees.
“This celebration recognises the individual success of all participants who engaged in the training this year and the contribution their companies make to our economy.”
The Department of Employment, Trade and Enterprise were acknowledged on the night after funding of •412,000 was secured for 2006/2007.
“This was due to collaboration with Kilkenny and Athy Chambers of Commerce and the future for training is secure and bright. Finally I’d like to congratulate all certificate recipients for their marvellous achievements and thanks to the Talbot Hotel who have sponsored the night,” Ms O’Connell concluded.
