DAVID O’Neill, a striker with the Barrow Rangers Soccer Club, Goresbridge was on the Kilkenny & District League’s Oscar Traynor team which defeated AUL of Dublin 1-0.

The winning goal for the ‘Oscar Cats’ was scored by Ritchie Bolger.

Meanwhile Bridge club’s B team scored their third successive league win in Division 2B of the Kilkenny League, defeating Callan Utd. 2-0 away on Sunday, January 12.

This follows wins over local neighbours Paulstown United and Highview Athletic, Graignamanagh.

These wins have sent Bridge up the table and they are currently fourth from bottom.

The ‘A’ team occupies a mid-table position in the Premier Division of the Kilkenny & District League.

GORESBRIDGE BRIDGE RESULTS: The results from Goresbridge Bridge Club on Monday night, January 6 were: 1 Ita Brennan and Ann Farrell; 2 Seán and Martha Kelly; 3 Sheila Hennessy and Elizabeth Walsh; 4 Harry Murphy and Eileen Tennant.

BORRIS RESULTS: The results from Borris Bridge Club on Tuesday, January 7 at The Green Drake Inn were: 1 Tom Sloyan and Eileen O’Connor; 2 Anna Hennessy and Harry Murphy; 3 Bridget Dowling and Helen Joyce; 4 Mary Strong and Paddy Walsh.

THYESTES CHASE: The racing fraternity will be out in big numbers at Gowran Park for tomorrow’s (Thursday) meeting which will feature The Thyestes Chase. Borris trainer and former jockey Seánie Treacy will be hoping for success in the big race with ‘Be My Bell’ which is certain to attract plenty of local backers.
