THERE is plenty of activity in the sporting scene in Carlow primary schools - individuals from various schools have been involved in the mini-games in the interval sessions in Dr. Cullen Park between Carlow and Wexford and Carlow and Longford while the I.N.T.O./G.A.A. mini-sevens inter-county competition takes place in Carlow on this Friday at 2pm with St. Brigids, Muinebheag boys and Myshall NS girls representing the county.
Gaelscoil Ceatharlach are currently involved in a girls football blitz organised by Brendan Hayden each Wednesday against Muire gan Smál (2 teams) and Askea girls (3 teams).
Gaelscoil are off shortly on a football trip to the Rath Cairn Gaeltacht where they will spend a weekend playing other schools - its 9 a side and mixed.
The hurling and camogie season is in full swing but has been seriously interrupted by confirmations and other activities.
Hurling Division 1

Gaelscoil Ceatharlach 1-1
St. Brigids Muinebheag are doing very well in this division having beaten Gaelscoil Ceatharlach and Holy Family recently. The game against Holy Family Askea was rather one-sided with St. Brigids getting a few early goals from C. McDonald, S. Kavanagh and C. Doyle. Holy Family tried hard but came up against a St. Brigids team on top of their game.
Best for the winners were: J. Rogers, D. Miley, E. Minchin, J. Dermody, M. Cummins, J. Gladney, T. Dowling, C. Doyle and B. Doyle.
The game against Gaelscoil again started with Muinebheag getting an early lead and actually led by 4-7 at half time. In the second half Gaelscoil came back with 1-1. It was a very even second half but St. Brigids had done enough in the first half to secure victory.
Best for winners were C. Cunningham, P. Barron, D. Darcy, D. Tuite, J. Carroll, C. Dempsey, M. White, L. Bolger. Best for Gaelscoil were: Pol OFearail, Peadar ODorain (0-1), Alan OBolgoir, Marc Mac Cona (1-0). The final score was St. Brigids 4-8, Gael Scoil 1-1.
Bishop Foley 5-4

Bishop Foley School 4-5
Tullow 2-4
Also on a winning streak is Bishop Foley who have notched up good wins against Gaelscoil Ceatharlach and Tullow. The game against Gaelscoil was a good sporting game. Some excellent skills were displayed by both sides.
Best for Bishop Foley School were Ian McCormack, Adrian Byrne, Martin Curran, Stephen McGuire. Nial Ryan had a good game at full back. Best for Gaelscoil were Barry OBrien (0-2), Peadar ODorain, James De Rut, David De Rath, David OTriobhigh.
Bishop Foley also won their game against Tullow who were slow to start and found the centrefield pairing of Ian McCormack & Martin Curran difficult to contain.
The wind in the second half favoured Tullow and when they scored an early goal it looked as if Bishop Foley were in for a much tighter second half but they weathered the storm and came back quickly to score some well taken points.
Tullow missed two good goal opportunities and in the end Bishop Foley went out clear winners.
Best for Bishop Foley school were - Adrian Byrne, Ian McCormack, Martin Curran, Gerard Molloy, Brendan Hennessy & Nial Ryan while for Tullow - Evan Fitzgerald (2-0), Aidan Ward, Sean Maher (0-1), Darren Butler, Allan ONeill (0-1) and Owen OToole (0-1) shone.
Tullow 7-5
Holy Family 3-0
This was a well-contested game with Tullow dominating the early exchanges but found it difficult to get through the Askea defence. Tullow led 3-0 to 0-0 at half time.
Holy Family improved greatly in the second half.

Tullows best players included Alan ONeill, Eoghan OToole, Karl Haskins, Aidan Ward, Darren Galvin, Evan Fitzgerald while Barry Martin, Jamie Cooney, Cian Clancy, Kevin Lawlor and Brendan Delaney tried hardest for Holy Family.
Hurling Division 3
Myshall has been experiencing some mixed luck beating Clonegal 4-2 to 0-0 but Ballinkillen beat them 2-8 to 2-1.
The game was rather one sided against the best efforts of Clonegals midfielders. Kenneth Brennan and David Brownrigg. Also playing for Clonegal were: Terence Murphy, Lee Kenny, Michael Byrne, Nicholas Moran, James Bermingham, Liam Tobin, Darren Egan, William Kelly and John Foley.
Myshalls scorers were Ian Doyle 2-1, Martin Clowry 1-0 and David OConnor 1-1.
The game against Ballinkillen could have gone either way and Myshall actually led at half time 1-1 to 1-0. A string of points from Ballinkillen in the second half earned them their two point victory in this Division 3 clash.
The Ballinkillen panel was made up of Shane Farrell, Declan Foley (1-0), John Maher, Luke Minchin, Alan Brooks 0-3, Martin Minchin 1-5, Daniel Kelly, Pat Byrne, Stephen OBrien, John Doyle and Micheál Ryan. The Myshall panel consisted of Dwain Kavanagh, Mark Slye, Eanna Kavanagh, Declan OBrien, Ian Doyle (1-0), Martin Clowry, John Keogh, Damian Nolan (1-1), David OConnor, Nicky Roberts, Thomas Roberts, Andrew OBrien and Patrick Doyle.
Glynn 3-4
Newtown/Dunleckney 1-0
This Division 3 game was very close in the first half. Michael Moloney got the first goal for Glynn and followed it up with an excellent point from a difficult angle. The half time score was 1-1 to 1-0.
In the second half Glynn pulled away for an excellent win and a great performance by the panel of Jason Cushen, Padraig Kehoe (0-1), Seamus Heffernan, Laurence Redmond, Daniel Doyle, Cian Doyle, Anne-Marie Moloney, Kevin Kehoe, Michael Moloney (2-3), Bridget Foley (1-0), Jim Murphy. Newtown was well served by Michael Kavanagh in goal who had an excellent performance.
Eamon Quirke and James Kinsella, Aaron Cox were all at their peak while Pat Hughes, John Quirke, Ciara Murphy, John Coleman (1-0), Darren Hickey all tried hard. Subs were Aaron Aughney, Brendan Kehoe, Aidan Murphy, Jason Canavan.
Camogie Division 1
Gaelscoil 4-0
Leighlinbridge 2-0
Gaelscoil staged a great second half come-back to win this exciting well-contested match. They were trailing by two goals at half time despite having a lot of the play but they compensated for their many frittered scoring chances when they produced four great second half goals.
Leighlinbridge were best served by Martha Watchorn, Niamh Kehoe and Laura Mahon. Best for Gaelscoil were Susan Nic Réamoinn, Céire Ni Fhaoláin, Eimear de Poire (3-0), Fíona Ní Nualláin, Eibhlín Ní Chonchubhair and Simone Ní Cheallaigh (1-0).
Leighlinbridge scorers were Claudia Watchorn (1-0) and Niamh Kehoe (1-0).
Gaelscoil 1-2
Ballinabranna 1-1
Gaelscoil were lucky to come out on top in this fiercely-contested encounter. Two very even teams were pitted against each other.
Best for the Gaelscoil were Céire Ní Fhaoláin (0-2) and Simone Ní Cheallaigh (1-0). Ballinabranna were best served by Michelle Walshe - midfield, Catherine Pinkney in goal and Nikita Brennan in full back line. Ballinabrannas scorers Anne Mulleney and Emily Jackson.
Myshall 6-0
Clonegal 0-0
Although Myshall found it hard to settle in this game in Clonegal, Mairead Roberts opened the scoring with a goal which she followed with a second goal. Nikita Dooley also found the net leaving the score at half time 3-0 to 0-0 in favour of Myshall.
Mairead Roberts was in great scoring form on the day and scored two more goals in the second half with no reply from Clonegal and Mairead Butler got the final score of the match getting Myshalls sixth goal.
Lisa Comiskey cleared a lot of balls for Clonegal and Sinead Doyle, had a very good game in goal while Margaret Bermingham, Niamh McGee, Emma Murphy, Margaret Hilliard, Noreen Lambert, Julie Sinnott, Anne-Marie Doyle, Claire Doyle and Edel Lambert.
Apart from the goal scorers Myshall also had Maria Fox, Rhona McGarvey, Avril Keogh, Marian Doyle, Lorraine Pugh, Celine Butler, Gillian Nolan and Áine Donoghue in good form.
