The Irish Chamber Orchestra takes to the road again for a nationwide tour under the direction of Katherine Hunka.

This outfit is of the highest calibre and its reputation has been soundly established abroad not just in concert venues but among leading international artists who are only too happy to collaborate. Last year's exhilarating concerts with Nigel Kennedy will be long remembered. Hunka is a specialist in the works of Britten and is a founder member of the Killaloe Quartet and the Britten Chamber Ensemble.

The ICO's range and repertoire is extensive and the tour programme leaps from Handel's Concerti Grossi No 6 to the polystylistic world of 20th century composer Alfred Schnittke. Puccini's song of lamentation, Cristemi, is also on the schedule.

* A little bit of musical history will he made this Easter in Bantry House when all 32 Beethoven piano sonatas will be performed from April 10-15 by pianists HughTinney, Philippe Cassard and Joanna MacGregor. * The Composer's Choice series dominates the week at the National Concert Hall with concerts running from today to next Thursday. Each programme is devised by a contemporary composer who presents his or her own compositions as well as music by those who inspired them.

The series kicks of tonight with Eric Sweeney and the other concerts are: the Brian Irvine Ensemble (tomorrow); John McLlachlan (Tuesday); Kevin Volans (Wednesday) and Marian Ingoldsby (Thursday). €8or €20 for all concerts. 01-4170000 

* The St John Passion is being performed next Sunday night (Passion Sunday) at St Mary's Pro-Cathedral, Dublin. This is the first time Bach's great work will have been performed in the church and proceeds are in aid of Trocaire.Taking part will be the Dublin Bach Singers with well-known soloists and the Orchestra of St Cecelia. €15-e20 01- 6778571 or at door.

* The Dublin Youth Orchestra presents its spring concert at the Helix on April 14 with a programme that includes works by Gershwin with pianist Finghin Collins as guest soloist. Also on the schedule is Shostakovich's first symphony. €5-e10 01- 7007000 

* Lyric Opera Productions presents the great operetta Die Fledermaus at the NCH on April 17 & 19.This is, of course, one of Johann Strauss's masterpieces. Soprano Kathryn Smith plays Rosalinde, the cuckolded wife who has a skeleton in her own cupboard. All very improbable, but it zings along with irresistible music and irrepressible humour. €15-e35 01-4170000

* Edinburgh University Symphony Orchestra plays popular works by Brahks, Smetana and Sibelius tonight in St Stephen's Church, Mount Street, Dublin; tomorrow in Adam and Eve's Church, Merchants Quay; and Wednesday night in the O'ReillyTheatre, Belvedere College, Great Denmark Street. €9 01-8721122
